Projects Ongoing
Education (girls’ education)
WaGEF, through its education programme, is providing teaching and learning materials to secondary school pupils in Bombali District. This project can contribute to improving the quality of education and enhancing pupils’ achievement and retention in secondary schools. Among the materials provided are note books, pens, pencils, bags, mathematical sets and scientific calculators. The project also intends to organize quiz competition for pupils on topics around their curriculum and award prizes as a motivation to the winners. School cubs have been established with members trained as Peace Ambassadors holding talks on GBV among peers and on other wide range of topics.
Skills Training and Livelihood Project
Through the skills training and livelihood component, WaGEF brings life back to survivors of GBV by identifying skills they are interested in and enrol them for training. The comprehensive Skills Training and Livelihood Project aims to equip deprived and marginalized individuals (women) with the necessary skills and resources to secure sustainable employment or start their own businesses. The project conducts thorough needs assessment to identify the specific skills gaps and livelihood opportunities in the target community or population as a way to enroll into the livelihood skills training program
Hygiene Promotion
The Hygiene Promotion Component of WaGEF aims to improve public health outcomes in few secondary schools by raising awareness, promoting behaviour change, and providing access to essential hygiene resources and facilities. Pupils have been trained and become Peer Educators on basic hygiene among peers in various schools. Sanitary pads have been provided to members and non executive members through this project.
Psychosocial Counselling
WaGEF has a common slogan during its counselling sessions, ‘’bring back, from the dark.’’
The “Psychosocial Counselling Project” aims to provide support and assistance to survivors and other marginalised individuals in the communities facing emotional, psychological, and social challenges. One unique aspect about this project is the high level of confidentiality, consent and privacy for our clients as they also suggest meeting points for counselling sessions – points or places they feel safe and free to talk.
